Abstract
The rapid advancement of digital technologies has transformed educational systems across the world, leading to significant changes in teaching methodologies, learning environments and student engagement. This article examined the relationship between digital pedagogy and student engagement in secondary education within technology-enhanced learning environments. The purpose is to explore how digital instructional strategies influence students’ behavioural, emotional and cognitive engagement in the classroom. The article adopted a conceptual and empirical review approach by analyzing current literature, theoretical perspectives and practical applications of digital learning in secondary schools. Findings revealed that digital pedagogy improves interactive learning, encourages collaborative participation, enhances critical thinking and increases students’ motivation toward academic activities. The integration of digital tools such as virtual classrooms, multimedia resources, learning management systems, educational applications and online discussion platforms was found to create learner-centred environments that promote active participation and knowledge retention. However, the study also identified several challenges associated with technology-enhanced learning, including inadequate infrastructure, poor internet connectivity, insufficient teacher training, digital inequality and distractions caused by excessive technology use. It emphasized the need for policy-makers, school administrators and teachers to invest in digital literacy training, effective pedagogical practices and equitable access to technological resources. Furthermore, the study recommended the adoption of blended learning models, continuous professional development for teachers and strategic government investment in educational technology. The article concluded that digital pedagogy remains a critical component of modern education and has the potential to significantly improve student engagement and academic achievement when effectively implemented in secondary schools.
