      <abstract>
        <p>The study explored the dynamics of democracy, elections, and democratic consolidation in Nigeria. It delved into the historical context of Nigeria’s journey to democracy, while exploring the key concepts of the study. The study further posits that democratic consolidation can only be attained through the acceptance of the democratic process instituted within the given society, and in this instance, Nigeria. The study adopted group theory to examine the behavior and actions of the Nigerian electorate before and during elections in the country. The causes and effects of election violence in an attempt to achieve democratic consolidation in Nigeria were also examined. The study concluded by recommending that the electoral umpire in Nigeria should be seen as being truly independent, with the needed capacity to conduct credible, free and fair elections in the country that will clearly reflect the will and aspirations of the Nigerian electorate.</p>
